NADY SP-4C Dynamic Microphone Review

NADY SP-4C Dynamic Microphone

I ordered this microphone for my band, and was surprised at its quality for its price. This microphone works great so far. I was not sure about it when I first saw it. However, the feature that bought me was that the cable converts from XLR (end that plugs into mic.) to a 1/4" end. This feature is great because you can plug the microphone into a small amplifier used for guitars and such. Also, you can plug into the "tape/cd" hole. This allows you to play something, i.e guitar, and use the micropone at the same time. I strongly suggest this microphone for aspiring singers. Great buy!

Plantronics Audio 480 Virtual Phone Booth Earbuds Review

Plantronics Audio 480 Virtual Phone Booth Earbuds
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Pros:
1. Fairly good build quality;
2. clean sound;
3. light and portable;
4. comes with a USB sound card (mine absolutely did, but it seems they changed that, as I read some reviews complaining about not receiving the USB soundcard);
5. quite effective sound insulation;
6. short and light cable suitable for laptop;
7. in-line volume and mic control.
8. a nice travel case.
Cons:
1. Very uncomfortable to wear. The ear tab must be properly placed to stabilize the thing, but when it's placed stably, it is quite uncomfortable to wear. To me, 15 minutes was too long. I have a Plantronics MX510 which can be worn for hours without noticeable discomfort.
2. The soft cover (white) over the earbuds can easily fall off and get lost. I used other microphones that have a similar design and know it will happen. If you use it frequently and you're not a super organized and careful person, I'd be surprised that you still have that earbud cover after several months of use. Once you lose the cover, the whole thing becomes useless because it cannot be stabilized on your ear.
3. The microphone isn't a sensitive type. The input volume is quite low. But on the positive side, the sound is pretty clean, especially when it's used with a USB sound card that comes with the headset.
4. The idea of sound insulation really does not go very well with a microphone. It's great for listening only, but it feels awful when you speak to microphone when the your ear canal is blocked by the earbud. If you have experienced ear discomfort during airplane takeoff or landing, you get the idea how this microphone feels when you listen and speak at the same time. But this is not a problem of this model in particular, but rather a common problem for this type of design. You may get used to it, but I can't.
5. You'd need an extension cord if you want to use it with a desktop. But this is no fault of the headset itself, because it is designed for laptops, and for which purpose the short cord is actually a benefit.
6. Too expensive. Amazon has it for about $60. I think $20-$30 would be fair for a product like this (But that's assuming that the unit comes with a USB soundcard; if they have taken away the USB soundcard, I would say this thing is worth probably just $10-$15).

JVC Everio GZ-HM200 Dual SD High-Def Camcorder (Black) Review

JVC Everio GZ-HM200 Dual SD High-Def Camcorder (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It's been a number of years since I had a camcorder. It was a tape unit, and after the initial infatuation with the new toy, I found that I never used it. Recording was a chore (juggling tapes and batteries), uploading was tedious, and the quality wasn't all that good. For quick ad hoc recordings, my various digital still cameras could grab a few seconds of good-enough video. The camcorder disappeared from my life.
A few years later, things have really changed. I received the Everio GZ-HM200, snapped in a couple of 8GB SD cards, charged the battery, and I was ready to go. We took a day trip to Mount Rainier; the weather was perfect, and I took a lot of video of photogenic glaciers and waterfalls.
When I got home, I wanted to upload the video into my computer. The Everio comes with software for Windows PCs, and Mac users are hardly mentioned in the documentation. I had searched the various on-line discussions of Mac video, and there were many cautionary tales about compatibility issues with the Everios. I anticipated problems.
I was wrong. I connected the USB cable to my Mac Mini, started iMovie (part of iLife '09), and opened up the camcorder. The USB menu opened, and I chose the "Upload" option. iMovie detected the camera, asked me a few questions (video quality, destination, whether to check for stabilization issues), and then imported the video clips. It was trivially easy - just the way I like it.
The Everio has a "Snapshot" mode to take still images, and I had tried it out. This meant that while I was working with iMovie, iPhoto also started up and offered to import the photos I'd taken. My verdict: it's OK for casual 1x use, but no substitute for a real digital camera. The problem is that the Everio's autostabilization mode only works for video, not for still images. This meant that a couple of 20x zoomed images, while impressively magnified, were hopelessly blurred. I'll stick with my Panasonic DMC-TZ4 for the still shots.
The JVC Everio is a tremendous little camera: compact, easy, light, and producing excellent HD video. (Yes, my Mac Mini feels a little underpowered for working with this.) The dual slot SD card design is excellent; the camera will automatically switch from one card to the next during recording, and you can swap cards on the fly. In XP mode (17 Mbps VBR 1920x1080) 16GB is good for 2 hours of recording, which feels about right. (You can crank it up to 24 Mbps, which will give you 1 hr. 20 min., or drop down to 5Mbps, at which point you can run for over 7 hours!) No more media juggling.....
There are tons of additional features in this camera, and sometime I may try them out. But for the basic job of plug-and-play HD video, this is hard to beat.
Recomended.

GN1900 USB Binaural Nc Headset Affordable Pc Voip Review

GN1900 USB Binaural Nc Headset Affordable Pc Voip

This headset slides right off my head and feels very cheap. I've tried repositioning it with the band around different parts of my head and asked co-workers to try it out, but we all of the same results...it slides right off. I think the weight of the microphone causes it to become unstable because this is side that it usually starts to slide off from. Perhaps, if the headband adjusted a little smaller, this would not be a problem. In addition, the noise-canceling feature of the microphone doesn't appear to work. It picks up the minutest of background sounds, such as page-turning in books/magazines. I plan to return it.

Sony ECM-DS30P Electret Condenser Digital Microphone Review

Sony ECM-DS30P Electret Condenser Digital Microphone
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this Sony ECM-DS30P mic to use with my Kodak Zi8 Pocket Video Camera. I wanted a little better sound capture at not a huge price. I trust the Sony name brand in sound equipment and the price was right. The total length of the mic is 2.2 inches (56.5 mm) and its' diameter is 0.45 inches (11.42 mm). It does capture sound in digital stereo. I haven't used any soft or hardware to determine the sound quality compared to the built in mic of the video camera. It does sound better to me, but don't get it twisted, it doesn't come anywhere close to the mics I use with my hand held HD camcorder. This mic does have a pivot point which allows you to rotate the sound capture head up to about a 45 degree angle. Because the external mic port on my Kodak cam is on the side, plugging this mic directly in would have its' sound capture ports (remember it is a stereo mic) facing up or down or front to back. Not ideal! Therefore, I purchased a 90 degree stereo adapter (with a male and female connection) from my local Radio Shack. It allows me to rotate the mic in almost infinite positions including straight down by the pocket cam's side for easy storage. There are probably better mics out there, but let's keep it real, for the price and quality and its' intended use this Sony ECM-DS30P microphone is hard to beat. I will up load some photos shortly.

TRENDnet 2-Port USB KVM Switch Kit with Audio (Includes 2x KVM Cables) TK-209K (Blue) Review

TRENDnet 2-Port USB KVM Switch Kit with Audio (Includes 2x KVM Cables) TK-209K (Blue)

This switch simply works. No complicated setup, no software to install. Just turn off both computers. Plug the shared keyboard, monitor, mouse, speakers and microphone into the switch, connect the included cables into the switch and the two computers. Then turn on the first computer, the one you want to designate as #1. After the first computer boots up and everything is okay, then push the #2 button and boot the second computer. That's it. From then on, you just push the button #1 or #2 to make the switch. It switches instantly, if both computers are not asleep. If one is asleep, it gives the signal, and then the PC takes only a few seconds to wake up.
I read a lot of reviews and I'm glad I did. Other switches seem to need software to work well, and rely on keystrokes to change. Because this switch has a button, it just truly switches over without any need to install software, making it the most generic. For PCs, you can use the scroll-lock+scroll-lock key combination to elicit the switchover. But it's simpler just to teach my kids to select button 1 or button 2.

Headset Buddy: PC Headset to USB Adapter - Convert Computer Headset with Dual 3.5mm Mic/Audio Plugs to USB Port, for Skype/VOIP, PS3 Review

I have never before been so impressed with the simplicity, yet great effectiveness of a product.
The headset buddy allowed me to transfer my high quality, and well loved, PC headset to my Apple Macbook. I became convinced that I would not be able to make this transition, as the technologies (PC vs Apple) are totally conflicting for headsets. I searched and searched, but it was not until I found the headset buddy that the transition was as easy as plugging in the USB converter to my Macbook, and then plugging in my beloved PC headset to the headset buddy. It was as easy as that. In a matter of seconds, I was making international business calls using Skype with the clarity and consistency I had grown to love from my PC headset.
I would recommend the headset buddy to anyone, especially those trying to bring their trusted PC headsets to their new Apple.
